How to Use Facebook for Recruiting

By Lorena Roberts on January 8, 2018

Posting jobs on Indeed.com can get you a variety of applicants. Some good and some bad. But you might get tired of sifting through applications that aren’t necessarily qualified for the job you posted. You might feel like you’re wasting more time evaluating applicants than you are being productive. Which is why it’s important that you recruit smart. One of the best ways to recruit for jobs is through social media. Not only does it give you insight into the kind of person you are considering hiring, but you can be much more picky about who you are considering for the job!

Facebook is one of the most convenient ways for employers to recruit. You can find out so much about a person through their likes, comments, posts, and pictures. Not to mention that people tend to trust companies more when they have an active social media.

Facebook has a pretty even age and gender distribution, and about five new profiles are created every second. It continues to be the most active social media, so by recruiting through Facebook, you’re giving yourself the best options there are to fill the job you’re looking to fill.

Did you know….?

There’s a “jobs” tab on Facebook in the US and Canada, where employers can post a job and interested applicants can send their information to you via messenger in an instant. Use your company’s Facebook page to post open jobs and a link to the application. Applicants will see your job post on Facebook as “bold” and will allow them to feel a more personal connection with you and the company.

Facebook recruiting allows anyone to recruit for you — it’s the most cost-effective way to actively seek out candidates for your opening.

Use location services to find groups with common interests:

Posting a job opening for a graphic designer in a graphic design group will bring you lots of applicants with the background you’re looking for. Half the battle is advertising the job opportunity in a place that the perfect candidate will find it!

If you’re looking for “new blood” and “fresh ideas” and you think a recent graduate may be the perfect fit, advertise through the “University Class of 20XX” to advertise your job posting! Make sure your post is public so it can be shared from person to person.

Get your current employees involved…

The more active your company is on social media, the more trusting applicants tend to be. If you can post a video of “a day at the office” and tag employees, the more likely it is for you to get applicants who are drawn to that kind of work environment and personal interaction.

Friends of current employees, or applicants that have mutual friends with your employees, might also be good people to recruit. There’s one reference you won’t have to check and then double check :)

Employee referrals build the community of your company. The more people you have working together who have good relationships with each other, the more likely it is that your company will be more productive and just a happier place to be in general.

Check into your applicants by checking out their public profile:

When a person makes part of their life public, it’s to your benefit to see what kinds of things they post about themselves. You probably don’t want someone who works for you and represents your company to have bad online behavior. Maybe they’ve posted about previous employers negatively. Maybe they’re openly racist and publish offense material. Or maybe they post inappropriate photos of themselves and their friends intoxicated or partying.

Recruiting through Facebook might not be your first idea when it comes to finding the perfect person for your company. But there are many things about Facebook that you, as an employer, could use to your advantage! It’s cost-effective, efficient, and very easy to do. Once you post a job listing, don’t stop there! The more you post, the more attention you’ll draw to your page and to your company. That means more eyes will see your posting – giving it the potential to be shared among hundreds of people.

Think of your Facebook page for your company as you would your personal, professional Facebook page. You want to create an awareness and identity of your company just as you do for yourself. The more photos albums of what it’s like to work at your company, the more positive people will view you! You want to tell the public a story and leave them wondering what kind of people work at this company? Do they always have this much fun?!

Before you know it, more people will reach out about your recent job posting than you ever thought possible. The power of a few simple clicks can instantly solve the empty cubicle in your office. Happy recruiting!
